Beth Thompson Shockney is the new director of the Pulaski/Giles County Economic Development Commission.

Her appointment has been confirmed by Bobby Wynne, chairman of the Personnel Committee appointed to conduct the search for candidates after the retirement of the late Dan Speer. She was approved by a vote of the EDC board July 26.

Shockney is the former Small Business Development coordinator for the Giles County Economic Development Commission.

She was one of only three who were interviewed.

Wynne said ten applications were submitted. The Personnel Committee cut that number down to half before choosing the top three to interview.

Shockney is the daughter of Elkton Mayor Carolyn Thompson, and the late Jimmy Thompson.
