Beginning at 12:01 a.m. Friday until 11:59 p.m. Sunday, shoppers can save almost 10 percent on clothing, school supplies and computers during Tennessee’s tax-free weekend just before students return to school.

Clothing, school supplies and school art supplies $100 or less and computers costing $1,500 dollars or less can be purchased tax free.

Legislators passed a new law in 2016 moving the sales tax holiday a weekend earlier than it has been in the past.

Gov. Bill Haslam said the sales tax holiday for back-to-school items is another way to put more money back in the pockets of Tennesseans. He encourages Tennesseans to take advantage of this tax break as they prepare their children for the upcoming school year.
