Stanley Walter Silver, age 80, of Lawrenceburg, TN passed away in his home with family on September 6, 2021 after a period of illness. He was a native of Loretto, TN, played a football back and graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School in Loretto, TN in 1958. He was born on October 6, 1940.

 

Stan retired after 40 years in high standing from Ingram Barge/Materials Co. He was both a licensed Captain and licensed Pilot on the Mississippi, Ohio, and Cumberland Rivers. He was a past president of the Propeller Club, a past president of the TRVA, a fourth-degree Mason, and a 20+ year scoutmaster. He had also been a consultant to the United States Coast Guard and consultant to the Corp. of Engineers. He attended the University of Kentucky and had been president of the school board at St Francis de Sales and Rosary Chapel schools, respectively, in Paducah, KY.

 

Stan was a historian and re-enactor for roughly 30 years. He had began the Cobbs Battery reenactment group, of which he led for many years. Stan was instrumental in organizing several large re-enactments in several Civil War battlefields throughout his life.

 

Stan is preceeded in death by parents G.W. Silver and Cecilia Viola Silver (Gieske), both natives of Loretto, and son Michael Stanley Silver.

 

Stan is survived by his wife Sue Dover Silver, daughter Michelle Silver, two grandsons Blake Silver and Brock Silver, great-grandson Kannon Silver; brothers Frank Silver, Eugene Silver, and Larry Silver; two sisters Sara Hines and Patricia Bretherick, long-time friend David Boker, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

Visitation will be held at the Pettus-Turnbo Funeral Chapel on Friday, September 10, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

 

Graveside Service will be held at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Loretto, TN on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. with Todd Gieske officiating.
