Donald R. McQuery, age 86, of Mount Juliet, TN passed away peacefully Saturday, July 10, 2021, at his residence. He was born in Benham, Kentucky on April 28, 1935, and grew up in Big Stone Gap, VA with 4 brothers and 3 sisters. He won a football college scholarship to the University of Tennessee.  Served his country proudly in the United States Army in communications while stationed in Germany.  He was a hard working man who owned a service station, worked in a chemical plant and traveled all over the United States as a professional truck driver.  After working long hours when he had the opportunity to be home and rest up, he used that time to help family and friends in place of resting. Don had a joy for life and love for family and friends.  He had the most loving and giving heart and never met a stranger.  He was very devoted to his wife, proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He loved sharing stories of his family, friends and his experiences and people he met throughout his career.  After retiring, he loved to work in his garage and could fix/repair anything.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Maggie Payne McQuery; one son, Steven McQuery; and one sister, Faye Shelton.

He is survived by his wife, Janice McQuery of Mt. Juliet, TN; one son, Michael McQuery of Smyrna, TN; step-daughter, Shannon Johnson of Portland, TN; daughter-in-law, Kimberly McQuery of Goodlettsville, TN; four brothers, Gene McQuery of Wilmington, NC, Buddy McQuery of Loveland, OH, Dean McQuery of Milford, OH, and Jimmy McQuery of Clarkston, MI; two sisters, Patty Dean of Gray, TN and Sandy Smith of Big Stone Gap, VA; six grandchildren, Misty McQuery, Jeslyn McQuery, Kyla McQuery, Caden McQuery, Hunter McQuery, and Addie McQuery; and four great-grandchildren, Desiree McQuery, Ashton McQuery, Gage Cousin, and Leilani Cousin.
