Donald Glen Gist 82 of Florence, AL passed away on Wednesday, June 23, 2021.  He was a graduate of Rogers High School and retired from Ford Motor company and U.S. Postal Service. He was the former chairman of Killen Center Star Rescue Unit; Top Postal volunteer (1991) awarded by the US Postmaster General; awarded a member of Million Mile Club from the National Safety Council for no accidents on the mail route. He was also a member of Killen Church of Christ and an avid fan of Alabama football and Brooks High School athletics. 

 

  Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 27, 2021 from 12-2:00 p.m. at Elkins East Chapel.  The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Stan Dean officiating.  Interment will be in Killen Baptist Church Cemetery.

 

  He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Gist; daughter, Sherry Gist McCorkle; parents, Edgar and Geneva Gist; sisters, Doris Moody and Jean Abbott.

 

  Survivors include his wife, Margie Gist; son, Joey Gist (Janet); daughter, Donna Casteel (Mike); grandchildren, Lacy Casteel Gallagher (Mike), Tyler Casteel, Hope Gist, Magen Gist, Craig Keeton; great grandchild, Collins Gallagher; brothers, Rayford Gist (Rhoda), Larry Gist; sister, Rebecca Brown (Bill); numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Pallbearers will be Tyler Casteel, Jeff Walton, Terry Brown, Allen Moody, Glenn Tidwell and Kent Brown.  Honorary pallbearers will be Lex Moody, Mike Hughes, Jerry Tidwell, Brett Moody and Harold Walton.

 

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to North Alabama Christian Children's Home.
