Verdia Mae Kennedy, 94, of Florence, passed away May 22, 2021 after an extended illness. She was a resident of El Reposo Nursing Home Facility at the time.  She was born May 14, 1927 to Ernest A. Clemmons and Susie Clemmons, the sixth child of nine. She was the last remaining sibling of this family. Verdia Mae was retired from Genesco, having worked at the Sweetwater location and the new facility then located in the Industrial Park. She was a member of Milner’s Chapel Methodist Church.

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband H. R. Kennedy, three brothers, and six sisters.

 

She is survived by her daughter Linda Bissinger, son Dale Kennedy, sisters-in-law Frances Clemmons Cain, Sue Kennedy Shaw, and Jane Kennedy Clark, 6 grandsons, 3 granddaughters, 10 great-grandsons, 5 great-granddaughters, 1 great-great grandson, 3 great-great granddaughters, and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

           

Visitation will be on Friday, May 28, from 11:00 A.M. – 12:45 P.M., at Greenhill Funeral Home.  There will be a graveside service following at 1:00 P.M. at Greenhill Cemetery with Bro. Gregg Woodard officiating.  Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery with family & friends serving as pallbearers.
