Kathelene Brooks Jenkins was born in Aspen Hill in Giles County, Tennessee on October 1, 1924 to the late Ida Mae Brooks and Van Edward Brooks.

 

She departed this life on April 10, 2021 at Piedmont Hospital, Fayetteville, Georgia.

 

She was first married to James Edward Brown and in this union two sons were born.  She later married Ollice E. Jenkins.  This union lasted 56 years until his death.

 

Kathelene received her formal education in Giles County, graduating from Bridgeforth High School. At Bridgeforth she was “Miss Everything” including basketball player, lead soloist, lead actor, Miss Homecoming Queen, etc.  Even though not recognized publicly as her class Salutatorian, she later discovered she actually was when she applied to the University of Indiana.  She attended the University of Indiana parttime until her eldest son entered college in 1962.

 

Kathelene began her professional employment career at P. Lorillard Tobacco Company in Louisville, Kentucky.

When her husband Ollice’s job transferred him to Atlanta, Georgia in 1963, she began employment with the Federal Government at the Army Medical Depot.  They both were transferred by the depot to

Memphis, Tennessee. They finished their careers in Memphis and returned to Atlanta, Georgia for the remainder of their retired years.

 

She leaves to cherish her memory her sons Larry W. (Natalie) Brown, Germantown, TN;  Harold L. Brown, Atlanta, GA;  four grandchildren:  Kyla Toi Brown, Southfield, MI;  Courtney Brown and Khalidah Tunkarg, Atlanta, GA;  Seleslie Goode, Knoxville, TN.

 

Public viewing for Kathelene Brooks Jenkins will be held Saturday, April 17, 2021 from 12 noon until 5:00p.m. at Jordan Funeral Home 327 Mill Street, Pulaski, Tennessee.  Graveside service will be Sunday, April 18, 2021 beginning 2:00 p.m. at Maplewood Cemetery in Pulaski, Tennessee.

 

Social distancing and wearing of masks is required.  Temperature screening will be conducted.
