John Carey Speer passed away Saturday evening, February 27, 2021 at Adams Place in Murfreesboro, TN. He was born July 8th, 1937 in Pulaski, TN and was 83 years old.
John was a veteran of the Army National Guard. He was retired from Goddard Space Center in Washington, DC. where he worked as a computer engineer and was instrumental in the launching of many satellites. John traveled the world and had a passion for scuba diving. He enjoyed researching family genealogy. John had an amazing yard and was an avid gardener.
Visitation will be Wednesday March 3rd at 10:00am at St. Luke Catholic Church 10682 Old Nashville Hwy., Smyrna, TN. The funeral mass will follow at 11:00am.
An inurnment will take place Friday, March 5th, 2021, at Maplewood Cemetery in Pulaski, TN
The family suggest memorial donations to be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Center c/o St. Jude Honors 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
John was preceded in death by his parents Dr. John Ulysses and Joan Carey Speer. His brothers Robert Michael Speer, Stephen F. Speer, and Daniel McKenzie Speer along with his sister Mary Toby Perkins.
He is survived by his brother Frank H. (Joanne) Speer of Smyrna, TN.
Sister-in-law Beth Speer Thompsons Station, TN and Brenda Speer of Pulaski, TN. along with nieces and nephews, Carey Lenss, Scott Speer, Reagan Tennant, John U. Speer, Lindsay Perkins, Hughes Speer and Rachel Speer.
