THE U-S DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE HAS ANNOUNCED THAT THE NOMINATION PERIOD FOR LOCAL FARM SERVICE AGENCY COUNTY COMMITTEES IS UNDERWAY. COUNTY COMMITTEES ARE MADE UP OF FARMERS AND RANCHERS ELECTED BY OTHER PRODUCERS IN THEIR COMMUNITIES TO GUIDE THE DELIVERY OF FARM PROGRAMS AT THE LOCAL LEVEL. COMMITTEES CONSIST OF THREE TO ELEVEN MEMBERS AND MEET ONCE A MONTH OR AS NEEDED TO MAKE DECISIONS ON A VARIETY OF AGRICULTURAL ISSUES. MEMBERS SERVE THREE YEAR TERMS. FARMERS AND RANCHERS MAY NOMINATE THEMSELVES OR OTHERS. TO BE ELIGIBLE TO SERVE ON A COUNTY COMMITTEE, A PERSON MUST PARTICIPATE IN AN AGENCY ADMINISTERED PROGRAM AND RESIDE IN THE LOCAL ADMINISTRATIVE AREA WHERE THE ELECTION IS HELD. TO BECOME A CANDIDATE, ELIGIBLE PARTICIPANTS MUST SIGN AN FSA 669-A NOMINATION FORM AVAILABLE ONLINE AT FSA.USDA.GOV/ELECTIONS. FORMS MUST BE RECEIVED BY THE LOCAL FSA OFFICE BY AUGUST 1ST.
