Mattie Lou Chapman Thornton Joyner died Wednesday at her home in Nashville. She was 72 years old.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Cecil Wilburn and Ruby Bell Chapman; her husband of 48 years, G.T. Thornton; and her brother, Cletus Chapman.

Visitation will be held Sunday from noon until 6 o'clock at Carr and Erwin Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 1 o'clock Monday. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include: her husband, Don Joyner of Nashville; son, Donald Gene Thornton of Cedar Hill; brothers: Edward Chapman, Charles Chapman, Fred Chapman and Jerry Chapman and wife Judy, all of Nashville; sister, Edith Tidwell and husband Ed of Ethridge; 3 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
