Two individuals were injured in a shooting Saturday morning in Columbia and transported to a Nashville hospital.

The unidentified victims at first were treated at the Maury Regional Medical Center emergency room, Columbia Lt. Jeremy Haywood said.

According to Haywood, both victims showed up at the emergency room and police were notified by the emergency care they were both in ER.”

Additional security was on-hand at the emergency room due to concerns that others involved in the incident might attempt to enter the facility.

Maury Regional CEO Alan Watson confirmed that security was heightened at the emergency center before the two injured were stabilized and transferred to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Haywood said the department determined that the shooting occurred within Columbia’s city limits at a residence on the 300 block of East 18th Street.

“The entire case is still actively being investigated,” Haywood said.

“We are still in the beginning stages of investigation and encourage anyone with information to give the department a call,” he added.
