A Dickson County Sheriff’s deputy was shot and killed while on patrol Wednesday.

Daniel Baker, 32, a sergeant with the sheriff’s office in Dickson, was a native of Columbia and a graduate of Columbia Central High School.

According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Sgt. Daniel Baker responded to a call of a suspicious vehicle. Dispatch then lost contact with the deputy. Using a GPS tracker on his patrol car, authorities found Baker dead inside the vehicle at another location two miles away.

The suspected, identified by footage from Baker’s body camera, has been determined to be Steven Wiggins.

Wiggins is described as a white male with balding brown hair, according to a photograph released by the TBI. He is 6′1″ and weighs 220 pounds and is considered to be armed and dangerous and may be on foot.

TBI representative Susan Niland said all tips in this ongoing case are being investigated fully and the search area has been expanded.
