Law enforcement in north Alabama continued searching early Thursday morning for a Florida murder suspect who escaped from a standoff with authorities.

The suspect, who has been identified as 45-year-old Steven Brooks, fled the scene of a standoff at a home on Logan Berry Lane in the Harvest area of Madison County. He led law enforcement on a car chase into neighboring Limestone County.

Limestone County sheriff's spokesman Stephen Young said deputies were assisting Madison County, state and federal police in the search. As of 3 a.m. Thursday morning the search was centered near the Limestone Correctional Facility, a prison in Harvest.

Brooks is 5 feet and 8 inches tall, weighs 210 pounds, and was last seen wearing black pants and a black and brown shirt. He has an active outstanding warrant for murder in Pinellas County, Florida.

It all started Wednesday night when the suspect was barricaded inside the Madison County home.  Young said Limestone County authorities were told by other lawmen that the man is now facing a charge of attempted murder of a police officer in Alabama.

Anyone with information regarding Brooks' whereabouts should call the Madison County Sheriff's Office at 256-722-7181.
