FAYETTEVILLE FIRE CHIEF, DANNY TRAVIS, HAS DECIDED TO RETIRE AFTER ACCUSATIONS OF MAKING RACIST COMMENTS. ACCORDING TO MEDIA REPORTS, TRAVIS WAS PLACED ON LEAVE STARTING JANUARY 5TH WHILE THE CITY INVESTIGATED A FORMAL TITLE 6 COMPLAINT THAT THEY HAD RECEIVED. THE COMPLAINT STEMMED FROM FROM AN INCIDENT IN WHICH THE FIRE CHIEF USED RACIAL SLURS ON A 911 CALL AFTER AN ATTEMPTED ARMED ROBBERY IN WHICH TRAVIS WAS PISTOL WHIPPED WHILE ENTERING HIS VEHICLE BACK IN DECEMBER. A CITY EMPLOYEE FILED THE COMPLAINT AGAINST TRAVIS SAYING THE SLUR WAS DIRECTED TOWARDS HIM. RETIREMENT PAPERWORK WAS FILED MONDAY BUT BACKDATED TO JANUARY 5TH, OVERTURNING THE SUSPENSION.
