Rick Stephens, a resident of Petersburg and an alderman, was involved in an automobile accident Friday between Petersburg and Shelbyville.

According authorities, his wife was following behind him and saw the accident.

Stephens was transported to Vanderbilt Hospital’s Burn Unit in Nashville where he died from his injuries Sunday.

Stephens was sworn in as an alderman May 2nd to fill a vacancy on the board.

The flags at the Petersburg Town Hall are at half-mast in his honor.
