After all the churning stopped, Elaine Johnson took home the honors of first and second place in the recent ice cream churn-off event sponsored by the Campbellsville Area Association.

Johnson's homemade strawberry ice cream won first place, which is her husband, Randall's, favorite. Her favorite is the peach, which placed second.

Taking third place was Janet Rose, with her peach ice cream recipe.

Johnson said she had great fun competing and was surprised when she was announced the first and second prizes. The top two winning recipes are favorites of her whole family, and she makes them often during the summer months.

But don't ask her for the recipe. Johnson said it's no secret, but because she doesn't make it the same way twice. She eyes the ingredients instead of measuring them. Randall Johnson says he thinks the strawberry ice cream won first place because the strawberries came from the Mennonites just down the road.

The Campbellsville Area Association thanks all who came to the ice cream churn-off, making it a great success.
