The National Register of Historic Places is the nation’s list of cultural resources worthy of preservation.

This year four sites have been chosen in Tennessee for this distinction.

One of the four is nearby in Lewisburg, The Dixie Theatre.

The once-segregated Dixie Theatre in Lewisburg was built on the city’s courthouse square in 1936. The theatre closed in 1985 but later reopened in 1995.
