The 35th Giles County Branch NAACP Freedom Fund Banquet is set for 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 4, at the Pulaski Recreation Center. Tickets are $25 for adults and $12.50 for students and youth up to 18 years old.
Jackie Sims of the Nashville Branch is the guest speaker. She is a mental health professional with 15 years of experience in law enforcement as a crisis intervention specialist to victims of violent crime.
Sims is one of the founding members of Democracy Nashville, a grassroots organization successful in spearheading the “Ban the Box” campaign in Metro Nashville/Davidson County. She was recently recognized by the Tennessee State Conference NAACP with the Community Action Award along with Dr. Sekou Franklin, another founder of Democracy Nashville. Together they received the Volunteer of the Year Award for their dedication and leadership.
