The historic Lynnville First Presbyterian Church will observe its Sesquicentennial in September.

Lynnville historian Bobby Allen Hollis Jr. says the church was built in 1867 and the manse, or parsonage, was built in the early 1900’s. This congregation is 208 years old.

Hollis said the three congregations of Elk Ridge Presbyterian, Hopewell Church and Lynnville Presbyterian came together to build Lynnville First Presbyterian Church. Elk Ridge was the first Presbyterian Church in Giles County and probably the first in the state; Hopewell Church was burned during the Civil War; and Lynnville First Presbyterian, located in Old Lynnville, also was burned during the Civil War. The federal government gave a sum of money to Lynnville First Presbyterian Church due to the two churches being burned.

The Lynnville First Presbyterian Church's sesquicentennial celebration is set for September 10. The church is located at 235 Church Street.
