Dangerous waters ahead ... that's the warning some concerned citizens want to convey to boaters, kayakers and others who use a part of Richland Creek that runs behind the Pulaski Water Plant, particularly around the city-owned dam area.

Those citizen concerns about dangerous waters lead to a discussion at this week's Pulaski Board of Mayor and Aldermen work session of possibly putting up safety warning signs.

Alderman Vicky Harwell said the potential danger recently was brought to her attention. She said the concerns were specifically about kayakers.

Different sources say the current in that area of the creek is fast-moving and whirlpools are often created. Boaters and kayakers aren't aware of the swift current around the dam until they come upon it.

With kayaking and other similar sports growing, Harwell suggested signage be put up to warn of the potential dangerous waters ahead.

The board decided to look more into the matter.
