Martin Methodist College will welcome 960 students on campus next week to begin the college’s 148th academic year.

Martin Welcome Week begins Saturday, Aug. 19, with M-Day, known as Martin Move-In Day, when faculty, staff and upperclassmen welcome 350 new students. Martin Welcome Week activities will continue throughout the week leading up to the first day of class on Wednesday, Aug. 23.

On Tuesday, Aug. 22, the annual Martin Welcome Week concert and fireworks show will be held on the Campus Green and will feature the Celebrity Allstar Band, which includes former members of Earth Wind & Fire, Bette Midler, Janet Jackson and Kenny Loggins. Admission is $10 per person, with all students kindergarten through college, faculty and staff admitted free of charge. Music begins at 6:30 p.m., and the fireworks show will begin immediately following the concert—around 8:15 p.m. Bring a lawn chair, blanket and picnic basket.

The 2017-18 academic year will officially begin on the first day of class with Opening Convocation at 11 a.m. in the Curry Christian Life Center, and Martin Welcome Week will conclude with a block party at the Student Union Building on Thursday, Aug. 24.
