County Commission Results Posted on November 16, 2009
The Giles County Commission presented former District-Three Commissioner Billy Beets with a plaque, thanking him for his service to the county. Beets retired from the commission after twenty-three years of service as a commissioner.
Commissioners approved a resolution banning alcoholic beverages from the courthouse lawn or inside the courthouse. The resolution passed by a unanimous vote. A resolution that prohibited handguns in the Giles County Agri-Park was rescinded by a 16-4 vote.
The county commission approved a resolution clarifying the county’s relationship with the Giles County Economic Development Commission and the EDC director. The resolution states that the EDC director is a full-time employee that should be an individual capable of devoting 100 % of their time to the position, adding that the director should have no other role which would preclude them from, or be in conflict with, their full-time devotion to serve as director. Commissioners voted 16-4 in favor of the resolution.
In other actions today, a speed limit of 35-mph was placed on Blue Branch Road and a speed limit of 25-mph was approved for Thompson Road and Crescentview Cut-Off Road.
Commissioners approved the naming of three bridges in the county. The bridge over Shoal Creek will be named in honor of Irmer Austin Boyd. A bridge over Highway 11 is to be named in honor of Private First Class John H. McCree and a bridge over Baugh Road will honor James M. Hargrove.
