Widespread power outages due to the storms that moved through Wednesday night and early Thursday morning left many in the county without power to start their day Thursday.

Several thousand consumers were without power as PES Energize battle the damage left by the storms.

Due to the storm and severe weather Giles County Schools will open two hours later that normal today (Thursday).

Nearly 2,000 Duck River Electric customers are also without power, with the majority of outages being reported near Columbia.

A Maury County woman killed in the storm and at least four other people people injured.

The National Weather Service said a “large, violent” tornado touched down in Maury County near Spring Hill at around 6pm yesterday (Wednesday). Maury County Schools are closed today due to the storm damage.

A tornado was also confirmed on the ground in Giles County near the Elkton area.
